Noah’s Ark
God told Noah to build an ark. Even though it hadn’t rained, nor had it flooded, God instructed Noah build this ark thing. Contrary to what we assume, the Bible doesn’t tell us exactly how long before the flood Noah began the work. Genesis 6 gives a timeframe of 120 years, but it isn’t clear if that’s the duration from Noah receiving the instruction to build the ark to the actual flood.
Most seem to look at it being a 60 -70 year time frame from instruction to flood. Whatever the case, you know that Noah is glad that he built that ark! Don’t you know that Noah is glad he didn’t procrastinate? Wouldn’t that have been terrible?
I’m excited to share as I did on a recent podcast episode that I am joining the team of Last Days Overcomers. My main role is speaking and creating resources to help families prepare for the challenges of the last days. One of the realities that has been placed upon my heart is that this isn’t the first time parents had to prepare their children. Unfortunately, at this last universal catastrophic event only one family was prepared. Only one set of parents prepared their children.
In that preparation there were multiple layers—not just the building of the ark, but the ark was one of the most specific aspects of that preparation time.
God came to Noah with the instruction to build the ark. Noah had to be in tune with God first to hear. He had to trust the voice he heard. He had to obey, and he had do it to right away. There was a ticking clock.
Knowing how God works I don’t think Noah was constantly getting reminders, he had to trust that initial prompting. Time was of the essence. Exact obedience mattered. Noah had to build what God placed on his heart.
Parents, Build Your Ark
So, as we talk about preparing our children not just for the last days, but for having a faith that survives high school and beyond, is there something we need to build or do?
I can’t speak for you, but I know God has placed things on my heart. There are things I haven’t done. There are things I procrastinated on and have already missed the window. And there are other things in which I’m still procrastinating.
Luckily, they weren’t something like building the ark, but what do I know—they may have just been as important for my family.
Do you have something the Lord has placed on your heart to do for your family? Have you trusted the instruction as Noah trusted the instruction to build the ark? Did you begin promptly as it seems Noah did? Have you built the proverbial ark for your family?
Parents, let’s not wait. It’s time to build our ark.
