Aliyah – a Sign of the Times

Aliyah is the Hebrew word for “going up”, specifically to Jerusalem. When a Jew from outside the land of Israel, moves to make their home in Israel, they are making Aliyah.

There are dozens of verses in the Bible that foretell that in the last days, Jews from around the world will head back to Israel. (Jer 31:38-40, Eze 36:22-24, Eze 37:11-25, Hos 3:4-5, Amos 9:11-15, Mic 5:3, Mic 7:11-12, Zeph 3:19-20, Zech 2:6-7, Zech 3:19-20, Zech 8:7-13, Zech 10:8-12) In a description of the coming Millennial reign of Christ, Isaiah 11:11-12 puts it this way,

“In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to bring back the remnant of his people—those who remain in Assyria and northern Egypt; in southern Egypt, Ethiopia, and Elam; in Babylonia, Hamath, and all the distant coastlands. He will raise a flag among the nations and assemble the exiles of Israel. He will gather the scattered people of Judah from the ends of the earth.”

The context of Isaiah 11 is yet future, although it certainly seems as though it is being fulfilled now! Between January 1 and December 1 of 2022, seventy-thousand Jews made Aliyah. (70,000 people from 95 countries make aliyah in 2022 – JNS.org)

This was a year for the record books. In particular, Aliyah from Russia increased by 400% in 2022. Over the New Year’s Weekend, Pinchas Goldschmidt, an exiled Russian rabbi, warned Jews to leave Russia before they become the scapegoat. Historically, the Jews have been the scapegoat, which led to the slaughter of millions. With this warning, the numbers making Aliyah are likely to increase in 2023.

How amazing to see biblical prophecy unfold before our eyes! God is proving Himself faithful and omniscient. Praise to our all-powerful God for revealing future mysteries to us!
